Holistic medicine is a form of healing that considers the whole person; body, mind, spirit, and emotions, in the quest for optimal health and wellness.

According to the holistic medicine philosophy, one can achieve optimal health by gaining balance in certain areas of life.

Your Body (all aspects)

Addressing self-care and maintaining the body which feels right for you is possible when you take time out and have guidance and support. The key to long term health and weight happiness, along with food and regular movement (I use this word instead of exercise) is a positive mindset that moves you out of an unhealthy past and into a healthier future. Harnessing the right outlook that keeps you continually motivated is vital. This way you will have the benefit of a lasting, lifestyle behavioural change.

A lot of the mental and emotional pressure we place on ourselves when we try to change our body (or lose weight as most would say), just doesn’t work long term. It can also have an effect on our internal system. It’s important to gain clarity about your relationship with food and ‘exercise’ and how you’re best motivated in the short and long term.

Your Mind

If we don’t have the right mindset, anything we set out to change will seem more of a struggle. Being mindful of how we feel will give you a signal of when your body is experiencing something negative, this is our inbuilt ‘radar’ to indicate to us what is benefiting and not benefiting us. So we are forewarned then can make a conscious decision regarding our choices.

Your Spirit

Loving ourselves from the inside, seeing things through our intuition (or ‘gut’ feeling) rather than overriding with our thoughts. It very rarely steers us in the wrong direction. When we are aware of this and practice on a regular basis, you will never be ‘unaware’ of your feelings towards any decision you are making.

This is the part of health that Western medicine always leaves out, but trust me, it’s where your real power resides, with no exceptions.

Your beliefs and thoughts are wired into your biology. They become your cells, tissues, and organs. There’s no supplement, no diet, no medicine, and no exercise regimen that can compare with the power of your thoughts and beliefs. That’s the very first place you need to look when anything goes wrong with your body.

“What is going on in my life, and my thoughts and beliefs, which I can learn from through this situation? What is the soul lesson for me here? How can I grow from this?

There must be a genuine and corresponding change in attitude.

This doesn’t mean you can’t or will never go outside this and not have a piece of chocolate etc. but you will be in a better place before and after and your body will respond faster.
